Vietnam visa exemption is a type of document that allows overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to stay in Vietnam for a long time without a visa. In order to deeply understand about this certificate, please carefully read our information as below:
There are two forms of Vietnam visa exemption:
- A stamp of Vietnam visa exemption: A Vietnam visa exemption is a stamp on your passport that allows overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to enter Vietnam.
- Detached certificate: Vietnam visa exemption certificate is granted for overseas Vietnamese and foreigners under the permanent residence permit.

2. Required documents for Vietnam visa exemption
* For overseas Vietnamese:
+ 01 application for visa exemption
+ 02 passport-sized photos (one is glued on the application form, one is for spare photo)
+ A foreign passport or equivalent document has at least 6 months of validity up to the date of entry. If the applicant doesn't have a passport, he/she must submit the permanent residence permit granted by the foreign authorities with at least 6 months of validity to the date of entry. (attached a copy for the competent authority to the file)
+ One of the following documents (attached a copy for the competent authority to the file) if any:
- A certificate of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A certificate of Lost of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A copy or a quotation of the Decision for Renunciation of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A copy or a quotation of the Decision for Recovery of Vietnamese citizenship
- A Vietnamese passport (valid or invalid)
- A Certificate of Birth (Copy accepted)
- An Identity Card (valid or invalid)
- A Family Record Book
- The latest voter’s card
- An Identity Card issued before 1975
- An Excerpt from Birth Register issued before 1975
- A travel document issued before 1975
+ If applicants don't have the above documents, they must provide the documents as below:
- A guarantee which is granted by an overseas Vietnamese Association in the country of residence
- A guarantee from a Vietnamese citizen. Said that the documents don't need a require further certification or verification.
* For foreign passport holder being the wives, husbands, and children of a Vietnamese citizen or Vietnamese residing abroad:
+ 01 application form
+ 02 passport-sized photos were taken under 6 months
+ A foreign passport with at least 6 months validity up to the date of entry
+ One of the documents that prove the relationship with Vietnamese citizens
- Marriage certificate
- Birth certificate
- A Certificate of relationship with father, mother, children;
- Other valid documents as regulated by the Vietnamese Law.

3. Reference for processing fee
- 20 USD for the first issuance
- 10 USD for the nest issuance
