Overstaying in Vietnam. What should I do?

According to the Vietnam Immigration Regulation, foreigners, who would like to enter and stay in Vietnam for a certain duration, must have a valid visa. If your visa is expired, you have to extend or get a new one. If not, you have to pay the penalty for overstay Vietnam visa. Therefore, we would like to inform you about several points related to the overstaying case that you can avoid.

What will happen if your Vietnam visa is expired?
Based on the Circular granted by the Police Department in 2015. Foreigners are staying in Vietnam with an invalid visa will be paid for the penalty from 5,00,000 VD to more than 5,000,000 VND.
The fines for overstaying in Vietnam
For those, who overstay in  Vietnam for a few days, it will be charged by the day. The penalty will be applied under the immigration law
For those, who keep their stay in Vietnam for a long time with an invalid visa,  the level of punishment may include administrative penalties, restriction on Vietnamese immigration and enforced deportation.
This is the amount that is referred from social networking as below:

- Overstaying up to 10 days: 1,250,000 VND (55 USD) is a common penalty;

- Overstaying up to 1 month: 4,000,000 VND (175 USD) is a common penalty;

- Overstaying from 1 to 3 months: about 10,000,000 VND (440 USD)

- Overstaying one year: the penalty is more than 16,000,000 VND (700 USD) and forced exit, limitation on entry and exit and prohibited within the specified period.

You can extend your visa when overstaying or not?
Vietnam Immigration Department would like to provide the best conditions for travelers so they will consider for each case. If your case is applicable, you can extend your visa. If not, you have to leave Vietnam to get a new visa. 

How to leave Vietnam with an overstaying visa?
If you overstay in Vietnam for a short time, you will have to pay the fine at Vietnam airport for immigration officer before getting an exit visa. 
if you overstay in Vietnam for a long time, the level of punishment can higher dêpnding on your case. You also have to pay the fine before leaving Vietnam.
