Vietnam Immigration Department have issued a statement informing that citizens who entered Vietnam under visa waiver programmes, e-visa or tourist visa will receive an automatic extension until 30 June. A brief outline is set out below as published on their website: https://xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/
1. Foreigners who entered Vietnam on visa waiver, e-visa or tourist visa from March 1st, 2020 are entitled to automatic visa extension until June 30th, 2020 and can depart from Vietnam without having to extend their stay permit.
For those who entered Vietnam before March 1st, 2020, the same automatic visa extension can be considered, subject to provision of proof that the person was stranded in Vietnam due to COVID-19, accompanied by a diplomatic Note (with Vietnamese translation) from the relevant diplomatic mission, or a written document from the relevant Vietnamese authorities confirming that the person was required to undergo mandatory quarantine or treatment for COVID-19, or advice of other force majeure. The concerned person is required to present the said diplomatic Note or written document on departure from Vietnam.
2. During the automatic visa extension period, foreigners are required to complete temporary residence and health status declaration.
3. Those who are not subject to the paragraph 1 of this guidance or those who have breached the laws will be treated according to applicable laws of Vietnam.

As a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19, Vietnam has shut its borders by suspending all international flights starting March 25 and halting the issuance of new visas for all foreign nationalities starting March 18.
Several special flights in recent months have repatriated hundreds of foreigners stranded in Vietnam to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia.
Vietnam has recorded 324 Covid-19 cases so far, of which 61 remain active. The country has recorded no community transmission in over a month.
